At camp: I actually never officially worked at Hector, just lived it vicariously through so many great friends and people who have. I worked with the outdoor schools program in 1992, and have done pre-camp counsellor training hikes for the last 4 years.

Why he volunteers for this event: I think Camp is an important connection for young people to themselves, the natural environment, and important for building healthy relationships with others. All kids need an opportunity like this.

Why he volunteers for this event: Support of the great work that everyone in camping does for kids!

Samantha Nelson-Kennedy

At camp: Sam has worked for camp since 1997 and for YMCA Calgary since 1993

Positions: All things administrative

Why she volunteers for this event: This event is an opportunity to re-connect with camp alumni and raise funds to help kids have camp experiences. Sam is an avid quilter and has donated a few quilts and other crafts items to the silent auction.

At camp: 1988 to 2004 but took a few years off in the mid to late 90's

Why she volunteers for this event: Camp led me to explore other adventures in my life including working at Big Cove and Camp Queen Elizabeth. Many of my current friends have worked at Hector over the years.

Positions: Boat Staff, Kan. SD, Ontario Exchange (summer) and Full-time Outdoor School (non-summer)

Why she volunteers for this event: I came to Alberta to teach Outdoor Education. I landed at Hector and meet my partner, and raised my children for their early years at CCH. Many of my current friends are from camp and all of my chidren have or are working there now. Connecting children to the outdoors remains as importantnow as wen I was young!

Positions: Various (counsellor, SD, full-time, director)

Why he volunteers for this event: I believe that children should connect deeply with the outdoors! Hector is a place that has allowed both the chidren and the staff to connect deeply with the land while connecting with each other. My partner, friends and even my own children are all connected to CCH. My desire is to make sure others who have been through Hector have a medium to continue their kinship after their camping years.

Why she volunteers for this event:I went to Hector a as a camper. I have always had a passion for the outdoors and working with kids! I met my life-partner at CCH and many of of my closests friends worked at Hector as well when they were younger!

Why he volunteers for this event: Sending kids to Hector is a great cause, it's a nice way to keep in touch with friends; and it's also a way to showcase the diverse music and artistic talents of the Alumni.

Real Job: Rob says he, "Doesn't understand the question"
